As the world’s governments gather for COP16 Colombia, UN Convention on Biological Diversity (21 October and 1 November 2024), to review progress towards the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) goals, the GAA have published a report that takes stock of its collective accomplishments against its four nature commitments.

AICPA & CIMA is pleased to share our progress since our commitment in 2022 as a part of the GAA’s commitment to reverse nature loss.

In March 2022, the GAA launched a call to action for the profession in response to the nature crisis. The statement was a recognition that businesses and the accountancy profession need to be part of the solution.

The GAA’s 10 member bodies made these four commitments:

  • working with governments to establish and align coherent policy frameworks that accelerate business action to reverse the process of nature loss;

  • building our members’ knowledge, understanding and awareness of nature loss;

  • providing our members with the training, support and infrastructure to value and embed nature in decision-making and disclosure; and

  • supporting the alignment of consistent global regulation and globally accepted disclosure frameworks that integrate nature, people, and climate into corporate reporting.

The GAA remains committed to being part of the solution. Professional accountants play a vital role in driving the transition to a nature-positive and sustainable economy, ensuring that businesses, economies, and communities can continue to thrive in harmony with nature.

If you are looking to build up your accounting for nature literacy two reports from the Association will start you on your journey.
