NEW YORK (May 19, 2025) – The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) has named Grant Thornton partner Rahul Gupta, CPA, CA, as chairman of its Financial Reporting Executive Committee (FinREC), a key volunteer panel that serves as the AICPA’s official voice on financial reporting matters and develops nonauthoritative guidance on a range of accounting topics.

Gupta is an audit partner in Grant Thornton LLP’s National Office and a principal at Grant Thornton Advisors LLC. Based in Chicago, he assists engagement teams and clients in resolving complex technical accounting issues. Gupta also develops the firm’s thought leadership on accounting standards and financial reporting, including liaising with the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

“Rahul brings extensive experience and significant acumen in accounting standards to FinREC,” said Mark Crowley, FinREC’s outgoing chair and a managing director at Deloitte. “He has made substantial contributions as a volunteer on FinREC and other AICPA working groups and is an excellent choice to lead FinREC.”

Gupta has been a member of FinREC since May 2022 and serves on the AICPA’s Digital Assets Working Group. Earlier in his career, he served as a practice fellow and senior project manager at the FASB, where he provided technical depth and practical insight to assist the standard-setting body in improving U.S. GAAP.

“Having worked with Rahul for many years, we are fortunate to have someone with his knowledge and experience to chair FinREC,” said Kim Kushmerick, AICPA’s director of accounting standards.

The mission of FinREC is to determine the AICPA's technical policies regarding financial reporting standards and serve as the Institute's voice on those matters, with a goal of serving the public interest by improving financial reporting.
