Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, companies were already navigating an accelerated rate of change and striving to build and enhance organisational resilience. Despite the abundance of business resilience models, the pandemic revealed many companies were inadequately prepared to adapt and respond to such a significant disruption.

This research project, conducted by a distinguished University of Roehampton scholar, delves into the pandemic's profound impact on businesses' awareness and application of organisational resilience strategies. Through 41 semi-structured interviews with risk management professionals, the study uncovers the evolving strategies employed to fortify organisational resilience in the face of COVID-19 and beyond.

In an era where businesses are increasingly confronted with emerging, novel risks — notably, the implications of climate change — this study serves as a crucial resource. It offers invaluable insights for management accountants and business leaders, equipping them with the knowledge to anticipate and prepare for both foreseeable and unforeseen threats effectively.
