The case study clarifies investment adviser registration for CPA financial planners. The example used throughout the case study is a common CPA firm that provides tax and personal financial planning advice. A service that is not done includes providing investment management services or providing investment advice. The example firm does not meet the standard to register as an investment adviser with the Securities and Exchange Commission because:

  • They are not in the business of providing investment
