What are the risks of offering A&A services?

CPAs face an ever-present threat of malpractice claims regardless of the services performed. Offering audit and attest (A&A) services exposes professionals and their firms to certain risk.

Although it is impossible to eliminate all risks, you can identify and implement practical techniques to help mitigate the risk of a professional liability claim.

Processes to mitigate risks in A&A

You will gain insight into day-to-day risk management protocols related to firm practice management and service delivery.

You'll also learn about the many ways a firm can manage risk in offering A&A services, including:

  • Writing effective engagement letters
  • Creating a robust onboarding process
  • Identifying scope
  • Managing billing and fees

Deep dives into A&A loss data

Examining the recent data that breaks down the causes of loss related to A&A professional liability claims can help you understand the threats to you and your firm, and focus your risk management practices.

Additional benefits

In addition to earning CPE credits, CNA policyholders may earn up to a 10% premium credit for three consecutive years on their AICPA Professional Liability Insurance policy.

David E. Adams
Dave Adams recalls the way his father ran a small business back when Dave was a kid, from the sacrifices he made to support their family, to the flexibility that came as a small business owner. “No matter how hard my dad worked, he always made sure there was time to go camping. That’s something I take to heart when I’m working with those same kinds of clients. They’re in business to be successful, but also because they want to live a certain type of life. I’m honored to help them do it.” In helping others achieve the flexibility they want, Dave also enjoys the flexibility that comes with working at Geffen Mesher, beginning with the ability to understand clients’ tax needs while still managing the audit department. “The way the firm is set up gives people plenty of opportunities to try new things. You don’t get bored here.” The firm also provides Dave with the opportunity to honor the same “family-first” ideals he grew up around. “I may have been the world’s worst girls’ soccer coach, but I enjoyed every minute of being there for my daughter and her teammates. And the same goes with being a scoutmaster for my son’s Cub Scout troop. Those are the most important decisions a father can make.” He and his family like to get away to the Oregon Coast for hikes and walks along the beach.
